Last Saturday saw a bunch of us cozily cooped up in the boardroom of the Inch Community Sports Club, reminiscing about things that were (a golf course along the Inch Nursery fences, and Sandy's house under the hill), things that never came to be (the tram works!), and things that we would like - scribbled in a dozen handwritings over a hand-drawn 1:1000 map of the park.
And although attendance was modest, we were delighted to see some people none of us knew come along and join the Friends group. A big thank you to all who made the effort! As a result of the productive afternoon, the wish list for the park acquired a few interesting items, from paths (expected) to a less expected Gunnera manicata plantation to suck up the water running off into the gap between the playing field and the steep bank by the Sports Club. The map will now be displayed at the Inch Community Centre, with a box for additional ideas and suggestions. Please feel free to come and add yours, but hurry - we'll wrap the design up at the start of April.

Last Wednesday, Sarah Smith and Nenya Milne attended the Friends of Parks yearly get-together organised by the Edinburgh City Council. With lots of informative talks, networking, information on the opportunities for the Friends groups as well as our various achievements, it was a great and useful evening. Below are some things that may be of use to our group.
The next step for our Friends group would be to register with the Council, the Friends of Parks Forum, and look into insurance required for practical work in the park. Keep an eye on our website (www.foip.weebly.com) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/FriendsOfTheInchPark) for upcoming events! On Thursday 30 October we've had our first AGM, adopted our Constitution and elected a Committee. It was a great opportunity to air some of our concerns and hopes for the Park, and plan some events. See the Minutes for details, and come along to our next event - A Nature Walk with ranger Peter Davidson, on Sunday 23 November, at 12:30 (meet by the Inch Community Centre). Keep an eye on the Park noticeboards for other upcoming events, and visit our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FriendsOfTheInchPark
Wed 20 August saw our first event as a group - "A Walk in the Park" lead by John Munro of the Inch Park Community Sports Club. John told us about the history of the park, ancient and recent. He also walked us through almost all of the diverse areas of the park, pinpointing improvements, both planned and completed, that he has been working on together with Edinburgh Council: new pedestrian walkways and lighting, better drainage, wild flower meadows, tree maintenance. We also discussed possible locations for park benches and a community vegetable bed!
